Course Overview

The Pearson Level 3 AAQ BTEC National in Information Technology (Extended Certificate) provides students with applied, practical, industry-relevant knowledge and skills across key areas of modern IT. Developed with higher education providers and sector specialists, the qualification reflects the demands of contemporary digital environments and prepares learners for progression into university or IT-related employment.
Students will explore IT systems, cyber security threats and responses, website development, and relational database design. The course develops both technical competencies and transferable skills such as critical thinking, communication and problem solving.

Units of Study

Students must complete four mandatory units:

Unit 1 – Information Technology Systems
Unit 2 – Cyber Security and Incident Management
Unit 3 – Website Development
Unit 4 – Relational Database Development

Entry Requirements:

You must have 5 qualifications at level 2 /GCSE at grade 4/pass or above including English or Maths.

It is important to note that there is no requirement for candidates to have studied the qualification at Level 2, before progressing to a Level 3 course.

The qualification uses a balanced combination of external and internal assessment:

66% external assessment
Unit 1 – 2-hour written exam (90 marks)
Unit 2 – 2h 15m written exam (90 marks)

33% internal assessment
Unit 3 & Unit 4 are assessed via a Pearson Set Assignment Brief (PSAB) internally assessed by the centre.
