Course Overview

This Pearson Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification BTEC National in Applied Science (Extended Certificate) is equivalent to one A Level. This course is studied over two years alongside two other vocational qualifications.


This course is for students interested in learning about the Applied Science sector alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses.
An optional unit is also studied to broaden the students’ understanding and to support any future career aspirations.

The course comprises four units including Psychological Approaches and Applications, The BTEC National in Applied Science (Extended Certificate) comprises five units. Entry Requirements:

You must have 5 qualifications at level 2 /GCSE at grade 4/pass or above including English or Maths.

It is important to note that there is no requirement for candidates to have studied the qualification at Level 2, before progressing to a Level 3 course.

The mandatory Unit 4 and the optional unit are assessed using assignments which are set and marked internally usually involving practical projects. Mandatory Units 1, 2, and 3 are assessed using a written examination, set and marked by the examining body which will require students to recall and apply technical knowledge.
